Importance of Laundromats During The COVID-19 Pandemic

We’ve had to adapt to working from home and even studying from home since the pandemic started. With the danger of the novel Coronavirus looming high, basic personal and public hygiene is important.  It begins with hand washing, expanding to our larger personal space, which includes clothing, food and groceries, clothes, and our homes.

However, for households without their own washing and drying equipment, lugging dirty laundry to the local laundromat raises a new set of issues.

At Scrubs Laundry, we provide industry-grade washing machines, while following all COVID-19 precautions. Hence, you can ensure that your laundry is clean, while staying safe from the virus.

Mentioned below are some of the benefits at Scrubs Laundry’s laundromat services during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Industry-Level Washing Machines

While it’s still unclear how long the virus can live on different clothing materials, WHO does recommend that the virus cannot survive water temperatures at or above 70°C (158°F). Most household washing machines can’t withstand such high temperatures. However, at Scrubs Laundry, you can get access to industry-level washing machines that allows you to choose the warmest water setting, which is between 60–90°C (140–194°F).

Hence, by using our laundromat, you can ensure that your clothes are truly clean of all germs, especially viruses. That being said, high temperatures can also damage or shrink delicate clothing items. So, before you start the washing process, read the care labels carefully.

High-Quality Detergents

When it comes to eradicating the Coronavirus from your clothing, the type of detergent you use also plays a huge role. It’s recommended to wash your clothes in detergents that contain a bleach compound as viruses usually don’t do well in the harsh environment that these types of detergents create.

Moreover, it’s also recommended to use fragrance-free detergents. This is because these detergents don’t use petrochemical perfumes that could lead to allergies and irritate sensitive skin.

At Scrubs Laundry, you can get the right type of detergent to ensure not only your clothes, but your skin is safe too.

Pick-Up Services

With the third-wave of the novel Coronavirus being at its prime, the need for people to remain indoors has increased now more than ever. However, basic necessities like doing your laundry still need to be done. At Scrubs Laundry, we provide pick-up and drop services, which ensures that you never have to leave your home to get your laundry done.

How To Ensure Safety While Using Our Laundromat

With COVID-19 case rates showing no signs of slowing down, going outdoors to do laundry can be dangerous. However, with a little preparation and caution, you can still visit Scrubs Laundry’s facility safely.

Maintain Social Distancing

Following the safety protocols, we have enacted certain crowd-control rules, ensuring only a certain number of people can enter the laundromat at a time. Hence, this allows you to easily complete your load while staying six feet away from other patrons, as recommended by experts.

Leave The Machine During A Cycle

We don’t recommend staying in the laundromat after you’ve started your load. Instead, you could either take a walk to a non-crowded area, or wait in your car if you drove. This will prevent you from being exposed for an extended period to other people who could be potentially infected.

Wipe Down Surfaces After Use

Bring disinfecting wipes and scrub down all communal items, such as machine handles and buttons, folding tables, and so on.

Wash Your Hands Frequently

When you’re in a public place, you should avoid touching your face and wash your hands often, for at least 20 seconds. You should even consider carrying a sanitizer. At Scrubs, we have two soap dispensers and a handless sanitizing station for your convenience.

Choose An Optimal Time

Weekends are peak hours, so if you want to avoid long lines at the machines, go on the weekdays. If you absolutely need to do your laundry on a Saturday or Sunday, try to get an early start.

Have Coin Ready

While at Scrubs Laundry we provide coin and ATM machines, we’d recommend having your toonies, loonies and quarters ready beforehand. This will ensure you don’t need to wait in line to get coins to operate the machines, thereby preventing prolonged exposure to other people.
